RETREAT TO CONNECT
“In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.” – Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Biochemist and Nobel Prize Winner
Welcome to Yiwen Yoga Retreat! I am excited to resume our annual retreat (after three years) where you will have the opportunity to reconnect with the land, your body, and each other. I strive to design a unique and transformative experience that will leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and deeply connected. No doubt practicing yoga and in communion with the elements on the sacred land of Buckhorn Springs will give you an opportunity to connect with yourself in profound ways.
This year’s retreat will be at the beautiful, breathtaking historic Buckhorn Springs Resort in Ashland, Oregon. From rolling hills and lush forests to sparkling creek and river, our retreat location is carefully selected to help you connect with the land and its natural beauty. The facility is located within the ancestral homelands of the Shasta, Modoc (Klamath), Takelma, and Cow Creek Umpqua peoples who lived here since time immemorial.
The land upon which Buckhorn Springs resides includes mineral springs which the indigenous tribes referred to as “Hi-U- Skookem” medicine. Tribes from all over the region referred to as “The Land of Many Lakes” would bring their sick to these mineral springs for healing. Read more here.
Retreat Theme
The overarching theme of this year’s retreat is CONNECT…
With the Land – All answers are observable in nature, including but not limited to life and death, natural rhythms, randomness and order, constant change, etc. Yet, in a world where technological advancement and therapies to prolong life are at the helm of our society and awareness, we forget that Nature is ultimately “What Is” and offers no preferences, no judgement, no agenda or fantastical stories. And, realizing that our carbon bodies come from Her (Nature) and return to Her, let us cultivate and establish our reverence to the Land.
With the Self – What is the Self? What is your understanding of the Self? Are you able to discern Self vs. self? For me, exploration and true understanding starts with my dense material body and from there we excavate to see what we can find with yoga asana, nature, pranayama, and meditation.
Daily schedule will be available to those who enroll as we get closer to the retreat. In general, each morning will consist of a two-hour yoga practice before breakfast and each afternoon a two-hour asana and movement workshop before dinner. [Note: One workshop will be movement training conducted outdoors.]
With each other – This retreat is also focused on building community, with opportunities to connect with like-minded yogis through group activities and shared meals. The support of a community is essential to our growth and healing, and this retreat will provide the space to build connections that will last for years to come.
